Intra-diaphragmatic pacemaker implantation in very low weight premature neonate.
Implantation of a pacemaker (PM) in very low weight premature neonates can be a challenging procedure because of the actual dimension of generators. Ideal placement of the PM is still controversial. We describe a technique of intra-diaphragmatic PM implantation in a 1.3 kg neonate.

Fig. 1. Chest roentgenogram shows the PM placed horizontally within the diaphragm muscle. On the other hand, various sites have been reported for implantation of a primary permanent PM in children. Historically , the ventricular epicardial electrodes were inserted through a left thoracotomy or sternotomy and a second incision was used to place the PM. Generators placed beneath both rectus muscl...
متن کاملPacemaker implantation in a premature low weight newborn with critical congenital atrioventricular block.
We describe a case of a preterm newborn with congenital complete atrioventricular block (CAVB), delivered for distress by cesarean section, and undergone, at 1295 grams of weight, to permanent pacemaker implantation. The pacemaker has been inserted between the upper left rectus abdominal muscle and the posterior rectus sheath and connected by two epicardial leads on the left ventricle wall. The...
متن کاملFrequency of Thyroid Function Disorders among a Population of Very-Low-Birth-Weight Premature Infants
Background: Thyroid function disorders, particularly congenital hypothyroidism (CHT), are important endocrine dysfunctions associated with permanent morbidities. CHT is more prevalent among preterm low-birth-weight neonates compared to term infants with normal weight. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted on 126 very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) neonates referred to the neonatal inten...
متن کاملMetabolic Bone Disease in Very Low-Birth-Weight Neonates
Background: Metabolic bone diseases (MBD), including rickets and osteopenia, are important neonatal complications among preterm infants. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of MBD in neonates with very low birth weight (VLBW). Methods: This prospective study was conducted on VLBW infants from January 2012 to July 2013. Inclusion criteria were birth weight of ≤1500 g a...
